As I toggled through TV channels looking for mind informing shows to watch, voices from the show that was currently running on the screen when I walked in caught my attention. It was a religious program with people testifying about the accuracy of prophecy spoken by a ‘man of God’. All of prophecy talked about revolved around money. Some claim to have had miraculous debt cancellation in tens of thousands of dollars while others received huge amount of bank checks in dollars in their mail boxes and bank accounts from ‘unknown’ sources.
Even though people genuinely say these things on TV and in crusades, it does not make all of them true. That is why these ideas should not be allowed to go unchallenged. God has created us to reason so any attempt to take that aptitude away from anybody will always amount to taking away a vital piece of God’s gift in them.
Manipulation begins with theory and every theory starts with a story. Usually, the storyline and logic is mostly grounded in fallacy with intent to manipulate the mind. But again, who is responsible for the circulation of superstitious stories, or in some cases, beliefs that permeates the mind?
For many, it is one of religion, education and culture. In some cases the three feed and interpenetrate with each other to make you doubt or believe or draw a conclusion about issues, topics, theories and concepts.
Why do you believe what you believe? Is it because your favorite celebrity endorsed the theory? Be mindful that a celebrity endorsing something does not necessarily make things true.
“We get wise by asking questions, and even if these are not answered, we get wise, for a well-packed question carries its answer on its back as a snail carries its shell.” – James Stephens
We live in an age where the biblical warning in Proverbs 4:33 about guarding our hearts (Minds) is seen as a form of rebellion or apostasy. Do you believe what you believe about your church and other Christians for fear of your Pastor, Bishop or Apostle? “Each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.” Romans 14:12 (New International Version)
The human mind is like a sponge and if it is not protected, it will absorb whatever it comes in contact with. The good thing is that humans are created with the liberty to choose what they want to believe. But all that also depends on the amount and authenticity of information you allow into your mind.
You see, it is possible to sincerely and passionately believe and embrace a lifestyle and ideology, and yet be wrong because you are submitting to the will and manipulation of man instead of embracing true knowledge by getting informed through networking, studying and research to grow in your faith and career.
