New Year is a time, unsurprisingly, when people make life changing decisions. These are purposeful promises we make to ourselves and do our very best to put these desires into practice. New resolutions, new plans, goals in various areas of our lives and strategies all come to mind as we all change our calendar.
Do not look at what will happen in a year but more what will you do each day you awake to change, to move forward, to put into action knowing that each day wasted can never be found again.
Here are five tips for the New Year.
For very many years I always run into the New Year assuming that the way to get closer to God is to study and pray so much that He can’t help but be impressed by my efforts. All that changed when I got a new understanding of a verse in Isaiah 1:19 in the Bible which says: “If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land;” NIV.
Let him lead you. Listen to Him and obey instead of giving all the orders.
2. Engage Your Mind.
If what u know is not much, then what u don’t know is much. Find a way to bridge the gap
Educate yourselves in all areas of your desires, plans, goals and strategies. Take time talk to people about current trends in your career path. You can get inspiration in the volumes of words spoken and written by those that have gone ahead of you in your choice of life, career, ministry and education.
3. Follow people who inspire you.
“Motivation is what pushes you while inspiration is what pulls you to achieve a goal or an objective”- Olaoluwa B Adeniyan.
An inspirational person is one who has knowledge, wisdom, results and experience, and not just words. Look for people who inspire you. Attend their meetings. Have coffee or lunch with them if you can.
4. Direct your energy to the right place, plan, path and people.
Cars move because energy is directed towards the wheels. It stops if the energy stops from its source. Don’t waste energy on the wrong topics, people, functions, plans or goals.
5. Learn From Everything
End each day, week, month, task, encounter or project with a few good lessons and start the new one by showing that you have learnt the lessons of the past well.
Don’t let the New Year be all about changing calendars and dates. Let it count by changing direction and attention. See each day as a new opportunity to keep moving towards what you want to be.
